Timber Frames

Writer: Bob EvansBob Evans

Surrounding an entire timber frame with SIPs provides harmony with beauty and efficiency.

Traditional construction and insulation methods allow thermal bridging and heat transference which reduce the R-value performance of the insulation material in the real world application.  Because a timber frame skeleton has no exterior stud walls, and the SIP panel exterior wrap is unbroken, the continuous wrap protects the SIP R-value integrity.

Advantages of Timbers and SIPs:

  • SIPs add strength to timber frames

  • Reduces air gaps and thermal bridging which equates to improved air quality

  • Cost reductions with energy savings and smaller HVAC system required

  • Shorter construction timespan

  • Hybrid timber frame option for budget-minded to maximize the visibility while utilizing the SIP panels for load carrying
